Volunteers at the church pantry have been warned that the decrease in SNAP benefits will lead to more people seeking food assistance, and they expect record food inflation to exacerbate the issue.

For many seniors, including those who rely on Social Security, the impact of these cuts will be particularly harsh. Rachel Cooper, director of health and food justice for Every Texan, believes seniors will be hit the hardest due to the reduced buying power caused by inflation.

'Even when you've got the money, everything is still high, so you're behind the eight ball,' Cooper said. 'If you don't have a lot of income, anything that's taken away from you is a big deal.'
